High Country Morning

During an elk hunting trip with my brother and dad, we were welcomed with the amazing golden rays of morning as the sun crested the distant mountains. Though our hike was laborious, shots such as this made it well worth it.

A Window Opportunity

During a rest in between hikes, beautiful lighting compositions continued to present themselves due to a thick coverage of clouds. I had stared at this specific ridge as we hiked in earlier that morning but was never presented with the shot I had hoped for. Once we settled into another area to glass for elk, I was then setup for the shot I wanted. Another perfect window of sunlight poured through the clouds and I was able to segregate the rigid from the rest of the landscape as I had hoped would happen.

Warping With Time

A tree slowly succumbs to the laws of gravity over time. From the spatter of water that comes into contact with the fallen aspen, and the dry air of Colorado, gravity works as it always has warping the log into its current condition.

"It spoke to me" he said.

It was comical to use the lighting cast down on the toilet to symbolize a religious ambiance that was calling to me. Ironic coming from a toilet.......speaking out.

Anybody Home

Continuing my theme of Rural Decay, I set out to a nearby farm town that lies in the Mississippi flood plain. Here many of the houses that border the river had been through both the flood of '93 and '08. This house was particularly interesting in that most of the belongings were left behind during its abandonment.

My interests lie in the outdoors and photography. When I was young my father always had us boys out in woods, whether it be camping, fishing or hunting. For me, it would be a shame if I didn’t photograph the beautiful outdoors. I love showing my family the progression my pictures take with time and from learning new techniques. However, I do focus on a second theme that can show the intricacies of rural America and the outdoors. This theme is Rural Decay and it focuses on derelict and decrepit old buildings and other rustic objects in country towns. Structures, a more appropriate fitting than houses in some cases, that have been allowed to tarnish with years of abandonment. But despite how chaotic or worn the subject, a sense or artistic beauty surfaces. Deviant Art, for me, will be used as a tool to engage with others and give constructive criticism on others artwork. This will be done in hopes that others will do the same for mine.
